What is PCOS/PMOS?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), renamed in 2026 as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), is a common, lifelong hormonal and metabolic condition. It affects about 1 in 8 women and girls worldwide, and up to 70% may not know they have it.

It looks different in every body, which is a big reason it's so often missed or dismissed.

Common signs

  • Irregular, infrequent or missing periods
  • Extra hair growth on the face or body
  • Acne, or thinning hair on the scalp
  • Weight changes or insulin resistance

You don't need every sign to have PCOS/PMOS, and only a clinician can diagnose it. If this list sounds familiar, you deserve to be taken seriously.
